The engine failure really dashed our hopes of having a banner year.We sat out a few weeks trying to get another engine.

We finally decided a new engine was'nt in the budget so we drug an old 307 out from under the bench. We traded parts for a cam,put the vortec heads on it and went racing.

Bond county raceway in Greenville IL.is where we went to try it out. The heat race was going ok until the rockers came loose,finished last.Fixed the rockers, ran the consi,made the feature.The motor ran ok but was smoking,and way down on power,but we gave away 100 cubic inches going from a 406 to a 307 so we expected that.

The next few races went ok making the features easily,I was starting to impress myself. Then at the county fair race i ran second in the heat,even battleing for the lead.The feature was even better,started in the 3rd row outside,dropped back to 10th,found a groove and worked my way up to 4th,the leaders were running high so i moved up and 2 guys got by so moved back down low and moved back up to 4th,and was catching the leaders,but time ran out and i finished 4th.Pretty impressive,4th with junker motor and the next week I won the heat and was in the money in the feature what a way to finish the year with two realy good runs.
